January 22 – March 01, 2025
The Wiener Eistraum (literally: Viennese Icedream) is one of the world’s most amazing out-door ice skating rinks. We’re sure you’ve heard about the rink in front of Rockefeller Center in New York, or London’s Somerset House or Tower of London Ice Rinks, but frankly, they have nothing on their Viennese counterpart.
Spread across the Rathausplatz, the square in front of the Vienna City Hall, the Eistraum covers over 9.000m² (roughly 97.000 sq. ft.) of fairytale winter wonderland. The two main rinks are connected by various paths that idyllically wind through the City Hall Park, and since 2019 there even is a second level above the big rink (with a 120 metre ramp leading up to it). The musical backdrop for sporty visitors is provided each day by the radio station Radio Wien, creating the perfect atmosphere with a great mixture of classic and contemporary mega hits.
There also is a free practise area for kids, several curling lanes, and -of course- a rental service providing everything you could need (pre-warmed skates, helmets, even gloves!).
With the illuminated City Hall as its backdrop and various restauranteurs offering their goods to hungry skaters and spectators alike, the Eistraum is a true gem for skating fans of every level and age.
